SALMON THANKS TEAMMATES FOR HIS GOAL-DEN RUN

English striker Alex Salmon has paid tribute to his teammates for the key role they have played in his impressive goal scoring exploits this season.   The 22-year old finisher has found the back of the net with regularity since linking up with Inglewood United on the eve of the National Premier Leagues season.

Salmon is currently the competition’s leading goal scorer with 22 goals, seven more than Joondalup United’s Richard Howles.   After netting twice in the weekend’s top-of-the-table win over Perth SC, the former Carlisle United (England) and Alloa Athletic (Scotland) player said his goal scoring prowess is all down to his teammates.

“I’ve always felt that in this team I should be scoring a goal a game as I’ve got good, clever players around me that are always looking to get me in for chances,” commented Salmon, who has put away nine goals in his last six outings.   “I’ve set myself a goal target for the season and I’m on track to achieve it.”

“At the start of the season chances were coming in two’s and three’s but in recent weeks they’ve been coming in four’s and five’s, so I’ve taken the good with the bad in that sense.   We are improving every week and have shown we have what it takes to get to the top of the league, which is where we intend to stay.”

Inglewood heads into round twenty of the league in pole position, on level points with Floreat Athena but ahead courtesy of superior goal difference.   Joondalup provides the opposition on Saturday and Salmon, who scored twice when the clubs met earlier in the season, has no intention of underestimating the northerners.

“Joondalup have been up and down but that’s a reflection on the league this year,” he said.   “We’re on a good run but otherwise nobody has been consistent and everyone has beaten each other.   We know what we have to do to win and nothing changes in the way that we set up for Saturday’s game.”
