Inglewood United are the latest club to win a $750 football equipment package after embracing the Smarter Than Smoking Kicking Off Healthy Clubs program.
The Football West and Healthway initiative rewards clubs who have incorporated healthier practices. These may include offering healthier canteen choices, providing children with water and fruit or making it easier for youngsters to play football.
Inglewood have looked to make football more accessible for youngsters, therefore encouraging them to adapt a healthy lifestyle. “The objective is to increase participation of ALDI Miniroos and Junior aged players by significantly reducing the fees associated with registering to this club … and in some instances the fees have been reduced by 45%,” a club spokeswoman said.
“The club considers (this) will directly result in an increase of the number of players and families that will become involved with this club and sport for the coming season. The more players at the club and the more families will support notions of healthier lifestyles, increased fitness and healthier mindsets.”
She added: “A recent event to celebrate the end of the season for the MiniRoos players was very successful. The day was publicised as a family day and players were encouraged to attend with their entire family, extended family and friends.”
“The players were provided with lunch. The club provided a carnival atmosphere with bubble soccer, multiple blow up jumpy castles, blow up soccer pitch, archery and more. The carnival atmosphere directly provided a happy and exciting backdrop for the families to socialise, relax and enjoy a day outdoors with their children and other families.”
Up to three clubs each month can win a $750 Evolution Sports equipment package through the Kicking Off Healthy Clubs program. Clubs who have won previously include Westnam United, Wanneroo City, Rockingham United, Cockburn City, Denmark and Westside FC.
