Andy Keogh is happy with Inglewood United’s position at the National Premier Leagues mid-point but the first team coach expects a marked improvement in the second half of the season. With thirteen games played Inglewood sits fifth on the ladder, one point outside the top four and eight points off top spot.
The teams’ recent form has been good, winning four of the last five games to surge up the standings. However, that record contrasts sharply with the manner in which Inglewood started the home and away series, collecting just two wins and four draws from the opening eight games.
“We’re in a position that we’re happy with but we’re not over the moon, obviously we’d like to be higher,” Keogh said on this week’s edition of ‘Let’s Talk Football’. “There have been games we drew where we had chances to win, that’s probably six points (dropped) that would have taken us up to second.”
“Every team that wins any league around the world always averages better than two points a game throughout the season. We’re sitting just below that at about 1.8 at the moment. If we can excel in the back half of the season and get our average up to over two we’ll be well in the mix come the end.”
“It’s up to us to continue to get better each week and pick up more points, especially when we play the teams in and around us. Every game is massive now. The lads have taken on board that we really can’t afford to be dropping any more points if we want to challenge for the title.”
