WE’RE READY TO ROCK ‘N’ ROLL SAYS CYRUS

2017_01_10_Inglewood_pre-season_training_1267A strong Night Series will lay the foundations for a successful league campaign for Inglewood United according to team captain David Cyrus.   Inglewood makes their competitive appearance of the year on Sunday evening with a second round Night Series meeting with Sorrento at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium.

“The lads are buzzing,” said Cyrus, whose team was granted a bye in the opening round of the Night Series.  “We have adapted well to the sooner than expected start to the season and are ready to rock ‘n’ roll.   Our goal is to get off to a good start in the Night Series and that will set the tone for our league season.”

“We’ve had a good pre-season.   The squad is much the same as last year and the few additions we’ve made have lifted the standard and are showing some great potential.   The headache we’ve given (coach) Taki (Nicolaidis) is it’s going to be difficult for him to knowing what his starting eleven will be come Sunday.”

Cyrus says the short lead-up time to Sunday’s game – Inglewood only learnt they’d be playing Sorrento on Monday – will make no difference to his team’s preparation.   “It won’t have much impact on the way we set up,” he said.   “Sorrento have always been a tough side to play against, and their height always makes it that little bit more difficult.”

“I’m not sure what additions Sorrento have made to their squad although I am aware they lost two great players in Mathew Sparrow and Niccolo Sabatini.   Johan Cruyff once said ‘To win you have to score one more goal than your opponent’ and that is what we will be setting out to achieve … it’s as simple as that.”

Inglewood pits skills with Sorrento at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium on Sunday (7.30pm), with the early fixture featuring Bayswater City and ECU Joondalup (5.30pm).   Should either game finish level at the end of regulation time it will be settled via a penalty shoot-out.
