The recruitment of former Dagenham and Redbridge finisher Brian Woodall has re-focused the clubs’ attack for the second half of the home and away series. German-born Woodall made the move to Inglewood United during last months’ transfer window, ending a difficult six months with Stirling Lions where he struggled to find his feet.
The strongly-built striker brings with him an abundance of experience gleamed from a lengthy career in England, highlighted by three seasons as a professional with Dagenham. “I’ve settled in really well at Inglewood,” 27-year old Woodall said. “I’d heard a lot of good things about the club and I have to admit I’ve been impressed.”
“Inglewood has a great set-up and the atmosphere around the club is very positive. The coaching staff and the player group are top blokes, there’s some real quality in the squad and I’ll have to be at my best to keep my spot in the side. I’m here to score goals and help the club push up the ladder.”
Woodall’s talent for finding the back of the net regularly first emerged at Gresley FC, where he put away 50 goals in just 89 appearances. That led to a mid-2011 move into the Football League with Dagenham, for whom he played 88 times and scored 18 goals before seeking his release in order to see out the 2013/14 season with Bishop’s Stortford.
An unfortunate series of niggling injuries while at Stirling meant that club didn’t get to see Woodall at his best, something the striker is keen not repeat. “I wasn’t fit enough,” he said frankly of his time at Macedonia Park. “I’ve been working hard and I’d say I’m 99% match fit now and determined to set the record straight with Inglewood.”
Woodall has featured in Inglewood’s last two games and hopes to open his account for the club sooner rather than later. “I’ve had a few chances to score and are a little disappointed not to have put them away,” he said. “Goals breed confidence for a striker, and this weekend (against Bayswater City) would be the perfect time to get my first for Inglewood.”
“We know we are as good a team as anyone in the league, and that includes Bayswater. It’s going to be a tough but we if we go out there with the right attitude we’ll get a result … we definitely have the players to beat them.” Inglewood welcomes Bayswater to Inglewood Stadium on Saturday, kick-off is 3.00pm.
