INJURY PUTS WITSCHGE OUT OF ACTION

2016_01_29_Inglewood_v_Floreat_7176Midfielder Scott Witschge is holding onto hope that the injury he picked up in weekend’s opening round Night Series game is not as bad as first thought.   Witschge limped from the field late in Friday’s loss to Floreat Athena after playing a centring pass from wide on the right flank.

It was initially feared Witschge may have suffered a fracture to his right foot, however, that now does not appear to be the case.   “X-rays have shown no fracture,” he said.   “At the moment the diagnosis is deep soft tissue damage, but if it’s still sore in seven days that I have to have another x-ray because it sometimes takes a little while (for a fracture) to show up.”

Witschge, 21, originally damaged his foot while playing against club Forrestfield United a fortnight ago.   “I kicked the left-backs studs while trying to cross the ball,” he explained.   “I’ve been training and playing on it since without too much discomfort, but there was a sharp pain after volleying against Floreat.”

It is the latest in a long line of injury problems for Witchge, who joined Inglewood five years ago.   A blood clot in his lung robbed the then teenager of the opportunity to play first team football in 2013 and twelve months later it was a dislocated shoulder that ended his season prematurely.
