SPURLING RATES INGLEWOOD AS “EXCELLENT”

2016_06_14_Matt_SpurlingTransfer window signing Matt Spurling has been blown away by the high level of professionalism he’s experienced at Inglewood United.   Spurling, 23, officially joined the club earlier this month despite having trained with the senior set-up for the better part of two months while playing for Division One club South West Phoenix.

“My first impressions of Inglewood have been excellent.   I don’t think there is another club quite like them in Western Australia,” Spurling commented.   “They have amazing facilities, a great club culture, excellent coaching staff and resources, and an extremely hardworking and professional club committee behind the scenes.”

“There were many reasons that led me to signing for Inglewood.   At the top of that list is the professionalism which runs throughout the club and the quality of the first team squad.   From my very first training session two months ago I’ve been welcome extremely warmly from everyone at Inglewood.”

Bunbury-born Spurling came up through the youth system at Phoenix, where his versatility in the centre of the park brought him to the attention of Floreat Athena.   A successful three and a half season stay at Floreat was followed by a return to his original club.   Earlier this year he relocated to Perth for work reasons.

Spurling is looking forward to making his Inglewood debut – possibly this weekend at home to Balcatta – and lining up alongside some old friends.   “It’s been a smooth transition into the playing group as I played extensively with Mark Pritchard, John Migas, Jason Barrera and Alex Dunn a few years back at Floreat.”

“After coming off a quad injury, I’m looking to regain fitness and form and work my way into the starting eleven.   With work rate, goal scoring awareness, competitive nature and position versatility I believe I’ll be a great asset to Inglewood and, hopefully, we kick on and win this year’s National Premier Leagues title.”
