Inglewood United have begun a new era with the appointment of Trim Morgan as first team coach.   Morgan, 50, joins the club following a successful three-year spell at the helm of Western Knights, who he guided to last year’s Division One and State Cup titles.   He takes over from Andy Keogh, who vacated the top job last month.

“We feel strongly that Trim is the right person to lead Inglewood United and that his appointment can be a catalyst for change within our club,” said president Cesare Colli.   “Trim matched all the criteria and qualities we were looking for in a coach and he is enthusiastic about moving Inglewood forward.”

“Trim is a no-nonsense character who is respected for what he has achieved as both a player and a coach.   He has a detailed knowledge of the local leagues and its players, an understanding of what it takes to be successful and a holistic approach towards coaching and player development.”

As a player, Morgan carved out a reputation as a finisher of the highest calibre.   An England Schoolboy international, he wore Sorrento, Stirling Lions, Inglewood, Western Knights and Fremantle City colours while collecting two Premier League championships, two Top Four Cups and one State Cup winners’ medals.

His time on the local stage was interrupted by professional spells with Canberra Cosmos (Australia) and Negeri Sembilian (Malaysia).   Amongst his eight appearances for the State team were outings against Werder Bremen (Germany), Cereko Osaka (Japan) and Red Star Belgrade (Yugoslavia).

It was on the English Channel island of Guernsey that Morgan first turned his hand to coaching at Vale Recreation, Sylvans SC and Northerners AC.   He was reunited with the Knights in 2016 and the following year guided the club to a historic league and Cup double, for which he was awarded Division One Coach of the Year.
