Inglewood United striker Alex Salmon is the runaway winner of the 2017 Golden Boot as the highest goalscorer in the National Premier Leagues.   The 23-year old finished the winter with a remarkable 28 goals in 25 appearances to be well clear of Perth SC’s Gustavo Catarcione (19 goals).

“I’ve loved every minute of being at Inglewood this year,” Salmon said.   “It’s no coincidence that I’m enjoying my football and scoring goals, I’ve always felt they go hand-in-hand.   We have a great group of lads at Inglewood and I wouldn’t have scored the goals I did without having them around me.”

Salmon’s 28-goal regular season haul is the tenth greatest since the formation of the State League, the precursor to the NPL, in 1960.   The England-born finisher becomes only the second Inglewood player to win the Golden Boot, joining the great Len Dundo who topped the goalscoring charts in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
