Attacker Brian Woodall believes last weekend’s break brought on by the FFA Cup round will not affect Inglewood United’s momentum as they seek to consolidate a place among the National Premier Leagues leaders. Inglewood, who are sixth on the ladder but sit just five points off top spot, travel to neighbouring Bayswater City on Saturday.
Woodall is confident his team can back-up a season-best performance a fortnight ago, when Inglewood trounced Floreat 3-0, and extend their unbeaten run to five games. “It’s another big game for us,” Woodall said. “We played some good football against Floreat and we’ve had a good week on the training track so we are all ready to go.”
“Our last few games have been very good and we’re starting to get the results our performances deserve. We’ve been creating a lot of chances and scoring goals while defensively we’re working better as a group and have tightened things up. Bayswater have good players and experience in their team so this weekend should be a cracking game.”
Woodall says the recent appointment of Andy Keogh to the head coach role has contributed to Inglewood’s good run of form. “Andy’s got a lot of knowledge and experience in the game, the players listen to and respect him,” said Woodall. “It’s good to have him around and I think he’s enjoying the new role.”
“Andy has been part of the coaching team for about a year so he knows what each player is capable of. He’s made it clear that he wants us to play to our strengths, both individually and as a team. There’s a lot of competition for places throughout the squad and we’ll need that if are to rise up the ladder and challenge for the league title.”
