New coach Andres Oliveira says there are positives to be taken from this evening’s loss to Bayswater City.   Inglewood United opened the 2019 National Premier Leagues by crashing 3-0 to near-neighbour Bayswater City under lights at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium.

Oliveira, who was appointed four days prior to the game, felt the minimal time he had with the players showed.   “Coming in this week I couldn’t work on too much,” Oliveira said.   “I thought the boys would be a bit more pro-active in attack and play it safe in defence (but) we just didn’t know what our roles were.”

“The second half was good.   I felt the players need to get an understanding of what they need to do in their roles, and in the second half they started to get a clearer picture of that and we performed better … we’ve got a lot to work on and it’s a good team to work with.”

The honour of the seasons’ first game went to Ross Millard, who put Bayswater on the board after 8 minutes.   Daryl Nicol increased the visitors lead ten minutes later by converting from the penalty spot.   Steve Sokol could have reduced the deficit before half-time but was dispossessed before he could get his shot away.

While there was a marked improved in Inglewood’s second half performance, it was Bayswater that found the net through Millard on 71 minutes.   Inglewood’s misery was compounded when Sammie Riak’s late spot kick was kept out by goalkeeper Devon Spence’s right boot.
